Do you sign a BAA?
Yes — on day one. As your IT provider we handle systems that touch PHI, which makes us a HIPAA Business Associate. A signed Business Associate Agreement is part of onboarding, not an upsell. Any vendor who won't sign one is a liability you can't afford.
What's a Security Risk Analysis, and is it really required?
It's required. HIPAA's Security Rule requires every covered entity to perform — and document — a Security Risk Analysis (SRA), and to keep it current. It's the first thing the HHS Office for Civil Rights asks for after a breach or audit, and "we never did one" is the most common and most expensive finding. We run yours and keep the documentation audit-ready.
